Workgroup Teacher Programme (WTP)

For beginning workgroup teachers in a Teacher 4 position we offer the Workgroup Teacher Programme (WTP). This two-year programme consists of several modules that cover the basics of university teaching. After completing this programme teachers are able to do the University Teaching Qualification Programme (UTQ; Dutch: BKO).

The programme helps teachers bridge the gap between the UvA vision on education and their daily educational practice. We do this by creating a rich learning environment in which we provide teachers with scientifically guided training modules, teaching tools, and an open community of teachers to share and co-create education. The Workgroup Teacher Programme aims to stimulate four core competencies of university teachers:

  1. Teaching
  2. Testing and assessing students
  3. Supervising students
  4. Evaluating one’s own teaching

In the WTP teachers are introduced to these competencies at an introductory level that is well-suited for the workgroup classroom. In the UTQ, these competencies are further developed. Throughout the programme, proof of these competencies is collected in a digital portfolio.

The WTP is obligated for teachers in a Teacher 4 position (unless discussed otherwise with their department). Teachers in another position are also welcome to follow modules of the programme. More information on how to register for a module can be found on the page of the specific module.

Every module consists of a meeting of 3.5 hours. For the modules there is also some preparation time for reading some literature and/or doing a preparatory assignment. For teachers in the WTP there is also time scheduled after the meeting for working on the portfolio.

For the departments of Anthropology, Sociology, SGPL, Political Science and ISW TLC-FMG also organises, besides the modules, four peer consultation meetings of each 2 hours. The other departments organise these peer consultation sessions themselves.

Registration

By clicking on a module you will be directed to the information page where you can register for the separate module.

Before you register, first read the following information: After clicking the ‘enroll’ button in our registration environment, you need to click on each module, and then pick a moment to follow the module, and enroll for that specific moment. You can check whether this has succeeded by checking the status for the module: when it shows ‘enrolled’ you are enrolled successfully, when it shows ‘waiting for event’ you still need to select a moment for the module, and you are not enrolled yet.

Teachers in the first year of the WTP will register during the Didactic Bootcamp for the modules in year 1. They can then click the following button:
