Research seminar: evidence on how AI affects student performance

Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming education, but what does it mean for student performance? Dr Dimitrios Tsekouras shares his research into the impact of GenAI on students at a European business school.

Using data from 3,400 students, he examines how GenAI affects student performance. He shows that the use of GenAI has a negative effect on students’ argumentation and reasoning, for example, while it actually improves the quality of their writing. Interestingly, students with lower grades actually benefit more over time, suggesting that GenAI can contribute to equal learning opportunities. Students who use AI more often tend to do better in their studies.

What does this mean for you as a lecturer? How can you ensure that AI supports learning rather than replacing it? Come and listen, ask your questions and join the discussion. We will provide lunch.
