Setting priorities as a student

Students often have difficulties setting priorities when preparing for tests and exams. Teachers can use formative assessment to help students gain some insight into their strengths and weaknesses.

What is formative assessment?

Formative assessment helps students gain insight into their progress towards learning objectives of a course, semester, or even an entire programme. Students try to answer questions formulated on the basis of what they are expected to know towards the end of the course, semester, etc., thus giving them an idea of where they are and where their priorities lie for further study. A formative test may be considered a practice test that provides feedback on individual students’ levels of knowledge. This insight may positively influence the learning process. The video below provides further information about how to make use of formative assessment, by taking you through some steps and giving tips. The emphasis here is on formative testing and multiple-choice questions.
