OneDrive is your secure, personal file storage in the Microsoft 365 cloud. With your UvA account you can access your personal documents anytime, anywhere because they are stored online. With OneDrive you can work easily and securely online.

With this tool, as a teacher, I can:

  • store files, such as documents, videos and presentations in the cloud; you have 1 Terabyte (or 1000 Gigabytes) of storage space;
  • access your files anytime, anywhere: on your phone, tablet, laptop or PC, without using VPN;
  • share files with colleagues, students and external parties via a link or invitation via email, and work in them simultaneously;
  • encouraging students to collaborate using OneDrive, both during meetings and at home (after all, they also have a UvA account)

Why should I use this tool?
  • OneDrive allows you to easily create documents and collaborate in them with others (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). This is similar to Google Drive for which the UvA used to have a license.
  • The tool is especially suitable for sharing files with colleagues/students for which you want to collaborate once. For example: an Excel document in which students can indicate when they want to come in for a feedback discussion. Via www.office.com you can always find back which documents have been ‘shared’ with you.
What is this tool less suitable for?
  • OneDrive does not provide an environment for intensive collaboration. For example, if you ask your students to collaborate on a document each week, a Teams environment is many times more practical and convenient.
When does this tool work best?
  • Consider in advance whether you want to share a document via an email or via a link. For example, you can place a link on Canvas so that students can find it more easily. These settings can be changed retroactively if necessary.
  • Pay close attention to the settings when sharing a document. If you select ‘People at UvA with the link’, students cannot open the document when they use another email (which happens quite often). If you choose ‘Anyone with the link’, the link will be valid until a certain date, after which you will have to send a new link.
