Microsoft Forms lets you create surveys and polls and easily see results as they come in. You share the survey via a link that colleagues, students or external parties can fill out. The survey and results are automatically saved in your OneDrive, or the cloud.

With this tool, as a teacher, I can:

  • select different question types: open-ended, multiple-choice, rating, date, Likert scale (score 1-5) or classification;
  • anonymize participants or not;
  • invite others to fill out the form via a web browser or mobile device;
  • use Microsoft Forms’ automated analysis to evaluate responses immediately as they come in;
  • export survey results to Excel for additional analysis.

Why should I use this tool?
  • With Microsoft Forms you can quickly distribute a simple survey to colleagues and students.
  • While filling out the survey, participants can save it and return to it later.
What is this tool less suitable for?
  • This tool is less suitable for more complex analyses or setting up advanced questions. For example, if you want to run a survey for a study, we recommend Qualtrics.
When does this tool work best?
  • When creating, always select ‘New Form’ instead of ‘New test/quiz’. Within Forms you have many more options, such as the option where participants can also select and fill in ‘Other, namely:’ when asked multiple choice questions.
