A Meeting Owl is professional hardware for conducting online and hybrid meetings. The 360-degree camera always captures the speaker (or multiple speakers in a split screen) and records sound from all sides (unlike BRIOs, which send the image and sound one way). It also has a built-in speaker. They work plug and play with all meeting tools (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) and do not require installation; power and a USB cable is all that is needed.

With this tool, as a teacher, I can:

  • Get students to work and discuss in a hybrid setting
  • Have students conduct online meetings with external parties in a professional manner
  • Have students work together from different locations
  • Have individual students participate in a discussion/presentation on campus from the comfort of their own home
Why should I use this tool?
  • When the camera and microphone needs to pick up images and sound from different sides and online participants need to be heard through a speaker during a hybrid meeting
  • When groups take part in a hybrid meeting, a webcam and microphone can’t guarantee good image and sound quality. A Meeting Owl ensures that everything is in good view, everyone can be heard clearly and it provides a professional appearance (important when in touch with external parties)
  • Students who have to work from home for long periods of time can be actively involved
  • If you want all speakers to be in the picture (e.g. during a discussion) without hassling with the camera
What is this tool less suitable for?
  • Lecture-style teaching (a BRIO is the better option in this situation – it is more focused in terms of image and sound, usually aimed at the lecturer)
  • Recording lectures (students who ask a question automatically appear on screen, which is not allowed by the AVG)
When does this tool work best?
  • In settings where the image and sound of multiple speakers needs to be recorded (e.g. a discussion)
