The TLC lends hardware like iPads and Wacom tablets for online education. There are three different types of tablets that each have their own advantages and disadvantages: Wacom Bamboo Slates/Folio, Wacom Intuos/One and iPads. The Bamboos use a regular pen to write on regular paper and digitize this. The Intuos/One and iPad use a digital pen to write on a table.

With this tool, as a teacher, I can:

  • Take digital notes during class on, for example, a PowerPoint (both for online and on campus teaching)
  • Give feedback on papers and assignments
  • Make screen grabs of written text
Why should I use this tool?
  • Chalkless lectures
  • To instantly see your students’ reaction, since your back is not facing the students
  • To easily link your text or drawing to your PowerPoint
  • To make sure your text or drawings are clearly visible to online students and during the recording of your lesson
  • Easy (graphic) feedback
  • Useful if you want to draw graphs or formulas live
Advantages of the Bamboo Slate/Folio:
  • You draw/write on real paper, which makes writing very easy
  • Easy option to animate your drawings and digitise handwritten notes into digital text
  • You only need a cable to charge (charging while in use is possible)
  • Works wirelessly
  • Everything you draw/write is automatically saved
Advantages of the Wacom Intuos One:
  • Works in all kinds of applications
  • Can be easily connected to any laptop via USB
  • Requires no paper and ink
  • Can also be used as a mouse (ideal if you have RSI problems)
Advantages of the iPad:
  • Easy coupling with other Apple hardware
  • Works autonomously so you can easily take it with you
  • You see what you write, just like on paper
  • You can use different applications
When does this tool work best?
  • In situations where you want to take digital notes during class (such as graphs or formulas), so everyone can see it clearly
