Workshop: AI in education

Generative AI (GenAI) has interrupted the regular programming of educational institutions across the world and forced many changes, adaptations and shifts in policy. So how does such a powerful tool work and why is it disrupting education so much?

This workshop for UvA teaching staff focuses on the basics of how AI works, insights into how some students use it, and the impact of considering vs not considering AI use in an educational context.

Afterwards, you'll be able to...

  • Explain the basic principles of Generative AI (GenAI) and understand how this technology works.
  • Analyze how students use GenAI in an educational context and its impact on learning processes and assessments.
  • Identify and evaluate the benefits and risks of using GenAI in education.
  • Apply strategies to effectively integrate AI into teaching materials and assessment methods while maintaining academic integrity.
  • Make informed decisions about the use of GenAI in their own teaching practice, considering ethical and didactic implications.
  • Experiment practically with GenAI tools to gain insight into what this technology does well and where its limitations lie, and how it can support educators.
