Using UvA AI Chat to Collaborate with AI

Generative AI is rapidly changing how we design courses, support students and handle academic work with data , but most tools are not built for sensitive university information. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use UvA AI Chat as a secure “AI layer” on top of your own course materials, documents and datasets.

Course details

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore how to use UvA AI Chat as a practical partner in your teaching and daily work. We’ll cover how to write effective prompts, create and reuse artifacts (for lesson prep, feedback, communication, and more). You’ll also get a sneak peek at upcoming options to connect AI directly to your own documents in Microsoft 365 and the LMS, so you can safely build on your existing materials with AI support.

Intended Learning Outcome

  • Explain when and why UvA AI Chat is a secure choice for working with institutional documents and datasets, compared to external AI tools.
  • Upload and organise documents for effective use in UvA AI Chat and decide when to use RAG versus only the context window.
  • Design practical prompt workflows that let AI summarise, transform and analyse their own teaching or research data in a targeted way.
  • Describe basic options for using APIs to connect AI to existing or new applications and identify at least one concrete workflow they could automate or enhance with AI.
