University Teaching Qualification (BKO)

The University Teaching Qualification (BKO)

The University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) is a nationally accredited teaching certificate that offers lecturers the opportunity to make existing competencies visible and to get them recognised. A BKO trajectory supports the lecturer in reflecting on their own education and in developing further in their role as a lecturer.

The faculty’s principles regarding the implementation of the trajectory and the division of roles are described in the BKO framework FNWI, which you can download via this link.

Program

The Faculty of Science has opted for a program in which the practical situation of lecturers and mutual exchange of experience are central. In addition, workshops can be followed and/or a lecturer can receive individual coaching, especially in the field of course design and assessment. A more detailed description of the program can be found in the BKO flyer.

Target audience

Obtaining the BKO certificate is mandatory for every lecturer in the position of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and lecturer 1,2 or 3 with a permanent appointment or temporary appointment for more than one academic year at the Faculty of Science with a task size of 0.4 fte or bigger. Participation in the BKO program is also open to employees within the faculty with a different appointment, provided they have a significant teaching task.

Schedule

The program starts twice a year at the beginning of each semester. The duration of the trajectory and the time investment required varies: more experienced lecturers can complete the trajectory fairly quickly, new lecturers with little teaching experience will need more time to complete the trajectory.

BKO team

The BKO trajectory is carried out by the TLC Faculty of Science. The FNWI BKO team is Merel Pompe (BKO coordinator and didactic coach/trainer), Brit Giesbertz (didactic coach/trainer), Tjitske Sijbrandij (didactic coach/trainer), and Herke Brugman (secretary support).
