Tailoring supervision
This training focuses on one-on-one supervision in settings like mentorship, internships, or thesis supervision. You’ll practice handling challenging student situations using Leary’s Rose/Interpersonal Circumplex model, with an educational role-play actor to simulate real-life scenarios in a safe learning environment.
Note: This training builds on the year 1 Structuring supervision training where you learned guidelines for structuring a supervision conversation, discuss your role as a supervisor and assessor and practice a supervision conversation in a roleplay with colleagues. In Tailoring supervision, you dive into the literature of dynamics in interpersonal supervision contact and apply it with roleplay with an educational roleplay actor.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this training you will be able to…
- deduce what interpersonal behaviour you can deploy in a supervising situation based on the Interpersonal Circle Teacher / Rose of Leary
- employ different styles of supervision, depending on the needs of the student
- strike the right balance between your role as supervisor and assessor
