Extended Reality (XR) includes various technologies such as: Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR) and 360-degree videos. Members of the SIG eXtended Reality are either working on the deployment of these technologies in education or are interested in learning more about them.

Objectives

Create a community where we develop, share and use XR together.
Share knowledge within the UvA as well as with other SIGs and educational institutions.
Increase the visibility of XR projects between faculties and beyond.
Investigate the need for a community platform.

Who is this SIG for?

This cooperation goes beyond the UvA: other interested parties and SIGs from other institutions are also very welcome to join! In any case, the events organised are open to employees of UvA faculties, Amsterdam UMC, HvA and VU.

Main purpose

The main purpose of the SIG eXtended Reality is to gather and share knowledge about XR in education. This includes new developments in hardware and software. Meanwhile, the focus is on effective teaching methods and implementation in education. Therefore, we are committed to ensuring open sharing of designed learning materials and facilitating exchange between faculties. At the moment, we investigate whether there is a need for a community platform and which form this could adopt.
