Module 8 | An inclusive learning environment | FNWI

What is your perspective on difference, and how does this play a role in our teaching? And when these differences cause HOT (Heated, Offensive, Tense) moments in the class, how do you navigate this? And why is it so difficult to do so in the first place?

Course description

This module consists of two parts A) Approaches to difference and B) navigating Hot Moments. Sign up for both parts separately and follow them in whichever order fits your agenda best.

Enriching module

Part A: Approaches to difference

During this part we will dive into the topic of difference. We all have different ways of being, which influences the manner in which we interpret the world and the people in it. Also, our philosophies on difference itself can differ, which has a great effect our teaching and learning practice. In this part we will explore our own way of being, our relation with difference and discuss different teaching interventions so we can invite and leverage differences in our classrooms.

Part B: Managing Hot Moments

In this part we will explore and practice with different strategies to manage HOT moments. We will discuss what are the effects of those strategies and when you would choose one or the other. We will also turn inward, and challenge our inner voice that holds us back to intervene during such a HOT moment.
