GenAI is here to stay, but your assessments do not have to become a policing exercise. Join this workshop to experiment with AI‑resilient assessment designs that focus on what really matters: students’ understanding, evaluative judgement and responsible use of AI.
This is part 2 of a two-part assessment workshop series. You are welcome to attend either or both sessions; participation in GenAI and Assessment (part 1): Understanding the Impact is not required but recommended.
In this workshop, you will work with colleagues to (re)think assessment in a context where students have access to GenAI. Drawing on ideas such as supervised and unsupervised assessment, we will explore different ways to keep assessments reliable, valid and feasible, while making responsible space for AI where this supports your learning outcomes. Together, you will examine and adapt example tasks and elements of your own assessments to strengthen AI‑resilience, ensure credible evidence of student learning, and integrate GenAI transparently into students’ workflows when it can foster judgement, critical evaluation and AI literacy.
The session is interactive and practice-oriented. It combines short inputs with small-group discussions and hands-on work on your own assessment.
We will talk about multiple platforms and GenAI tools, and we will ask you to use GenAI yourself. UvA AI Chat is freely available to all UvA staff, but you can choose which platform you prefer to use. A significant part of the workshop is dedicated to applying ideas directly to one of your own assessments, with feedback from peers.
By the end of this workshop teachers will

This workshop is designed for university teachers and coordinators who (co-)design or grade assessments, in any discipline. It is aimed at individual teachers who want to learn and develop their skills around assessment practices, who want to participate in assessment discussions with your teams in a more informed way, and is not limited to those who have decision making responsibilities.
No. The workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced users. We focus on concrete teaching and assessment examples rather than technical details.
Yes, it is helpful if you bring (or can access) one current assessment task (e.g. assignment brief, exam, rubric). We will use this as a case for discussion and “AI resilience” testing.
No. You can attend either or both sessions. Part 2 will briefly recap key concepts, but you may get more out of it if you have already explored your current assessment in part 1.
Not formally, but it is designed for teachers who have already done some work to determine the impact of GenAI on their assessment. The intention is to get straight into solutions for the challenges/opportunities you have found. If you have not done this, or need support in this area, we recommend you attend part 1 first.
The course is funded from central funds. Signing up is not non-committal, we will count on your participation.
After registering, you will receive an automated invitation for your Outlook calendar (please don’t forget to accept). If the location is not yet known at that time, an update will follow later.
A proof of participation is available upon request. Please send an email to tlc-centraal@uva.nl after the course.
