AI Data & API

AI offers powerful new ways to work with your course materials and data , but how do you do this securely, and what’s actually happening “under the hood”?
In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to use UvA AI Chat to work safely with your own documents and datasets, and why popular external tools are often not suitable for sensitive or institutional data.

Course details

In this workshop we’ll explore how data can be securely used in UvA AI Chat.
We’ll have a look at uploading documents, using RAG vs Context window and explore ways to work with or on your data using AI. For more streamlined workflows, we can also look at using API access to incorporate AI features in existing or new programs.

Intended Learning Outcome

  • Upload and structure documents for effective use in UvA AI Chat, and choose when to use RAG versus only the context window.
  • Design prompts and workflows that let AI summarise, transform and analyse their own teaching or research data in meaningful ways.
  • Describe basic options for using APIs to integrate AI functionalities into existing or new tools and automate simple tasks.
