How is the University of Amsterdam dealing with the rapid rise and impact of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) on academia worldwide? GenAI Workspace and Living Lab is a combination of two teams actively working to answer this question. This cooperation primarily aims to support, activate and involve lecturers and students in the development of AI in education as effectively as possible.
GenAI Workspace & Living were set up as part of an institution-wide projectplan for the further development of GenAI at the University of Amsterdam.
The GenAI Workspace is the technological heart of the programme. This is where innovative applications and tools are designed, tested and built. This is done in co-creation with lecturers, researchers, students and staff at the University of Amsterdam. It is the place where ideas are turned into tangible results and where open innovation is given direction.

The GenAI Living Lab team explores, tests and evaluates GenAI applications in realistic educational contexts. Based on practical experience, they provide direct support to lecturers and students in the use of GenAI, while also building a broad AI literacy portfolio with the aim of strengthening the knowledge, skills and confidence of students and staff in the responsible and effective use of GenAI.
