BKO+ Track – Responsible AI in Education

Are you ready to harness the power of AI while ensuring its responsible use in your classroom? This course empowers educators with the skills to integrate AI into teaching, mitigate misuse and enhance student learning. Participants will explore ethical implications, uncover best practices, and develop methods to teach, use and/or consider AI responsibly.

Track details

This course is designed to equip educators with the skills and knowledge to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their teaching practices while deterring misuse. Participants will explore the ethical implications and best practices of AI implementation in education, gaining insights into how students interact with AI and developing methods to teach AI usage responsibly.

The course will enhance educators’ abilities to apply AI to key UTQ (BKO in Dutch) competencies, while critically evaluating AI tools and their impact on learning. Educators will demonstrate their ability to apply AI knowledge within their own contexts and generalize it to unfamiliar scenarios, advising colleagues on AI integration and fostering ethical AI practices that support educational goals.

Intended learning outcome

By the end of this Track, you will be able to

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of AI principles and societal impacts, including ethical considerations and privacy concerns
  • Demonstrate familiarity with a human centered mindset, domain appropriate pedagogical methodologies, instructional design methods and conceptual knowledge on AI to explain their decisions on whether/how AI should be used and why
  • Design and implement AI-assisted teaching and assessment
  • Redesign a current course/element of a course to incorporate/consider AI in ways that align with UTQ (BKO) competencies, reflect on the integration/redesign process and assess its impact on teaching practices and student engagement/outcomes.

Assessment

The assessment process for this course will involve teachers redesigning a current course/elements of a course whereby AI for enhanced teaching effectiveness and student learning (aligning with UTQ/BKO competencies) will be integrated or considered in the design. They will present their redesign, detailing how AI inclusion supports UTQ (BKO) competencies and improve educational outcomes, while also addressing potential AI misuse by implementing strategies for AI-resilient assessments and practices. Reflecting on the redesign, teachers will assess the impact of AI elements on their teaching practices and student engagement.
