During the 2025 Generation Z conference, it became clear that traditional teaching methods alone no longer meet the needs of today’s students. Those born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s have grown up in a fully digital world. With constant access to smartphones, social media and information, their approach to learning and communication is fundamentally different.
Generation Z learners tend to be independent, visually oriented and socially conscious. They value authenticity, fast feedback and learning experiences that feel relevant and meaningful. Mental health, inclusivity and digital competence are high on their agenda. As a result, conventional lectures or passive teaching methods often fall short. What they respond to are interactive, flexible and student-centred approaches.
What can I do?
Active learning is a powerful way to meet these expectations. It invites students to participate, reflect and collaborate – turning them into active contributors.
