How do your intended learning outcomes hold up in an AI‑rich world? In this hands‑on workshop, you will take a fresh look at your own learning outcomes and explore how generative AI affects what you ask students to know and do.
During the workshop, you will reflect on how generative AI influences the formulation and alignment of learning outcomes in your teaching, work with structured questions and lenses to analyse outcomes for different purposes (such as knowledge, reasoning, skills and products) and their relevance, and apply these criteria to your own ILOs to identify where they need clarification, strengthening or re‑orientation, leaving with concrete ideas for targeted improvements and next steps you can bring back into your course or team. You can choose to work with ILOs at the level that is most relevant to you – from programme‑level outcomes to course‑ or lesson‑level goals – and the session is designed for individual teachers who want to participate more confidently in programme or team discussions about (re)designing ILOs, whether or not they formally “own” the outcomes on paper.

This workshop is for individual teachers from any discipline who are curious about how generative AI affects their learning outcomes and want to engage more confidently in course or programme discussions about ILOs, whether or not they are formally responsible for writing or approving them.
No. The session is explicitly designed for people who want to participate in, or influence, team decision‑making around learning outcomes in an informed way, even if they do not have the final say themselves.
No specialist expertise is required. We briefly introduce key ideas about generative AI and learning outcomes, then guide you through structured questions and examples. A basic familiarity with your own course and its goals is enough.
Please bring 2–4 Intended Learning Outcomes from a course you are involved in (these can be draft or existing ILOs). If possible, also bring a laptop or tablet so you can access course documents and make notes for yourself as you work.
You will be better able to reflect on how AI influences the formulation and alignment of learning outcomes in your teaching, use structured lenses to analyse ILOs for different purposes, and identify concrete improvements or next steps for your own course, which you can then discuss with colleagues or programme leaders.
No changes are made automatically. The workshop helps you generate well‑reasoned suggestions and options for revising or refining ILOs. Any formal changes still go through your usual programme or faculty processes.
No. The examples and tools we use are discipline‑neutral, and you will apply them to your own context. Participants typically benefit from hearing how colleagues in other fields are rethinking outcomes in an AI‑rich environment.
We focus on pedagogical reasoning and structured analysis of ILOs, and may demonstrate or discuss the role of AI tools as part of that conversation, but the core of the session is dialogue and guided work with your own learning outcomes.
