Gamification as a tool to activate students

In order to activate and motivate students, you can add gamification elements to your course. Examples are using scoring systems, fostering competition between teams of students, or encourage interaction between students and the study material. In this good practice we focus on gamification grading as a means to make learning more active.

What is gamification grading?

Gamification grading enables teams to battle against each other for points. Rather than a summative test at the end of the course, the teams start at 0 points and earn points throughout the program by working on small assignments and quest around the learning objectives and material. It can help to announce a prize for the winning team, increasing motivation of the teams to work. A live leaderboard indicates the score, so all teams know where they stand in the competition. In the video below, you will find more information on how you can use gamification grading yourself in a few short steps.
